02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- An open undercroft supports a raised shared family room, with hearth, sleeping, storage, and social positions ordered beneath the high roof.
- materials
- Massive hardwood posts and beams, pegged joinery, bamboo, palm fibre, natural pigment, woven mats, and stone bases form the house.
- furniture
- Low mats, storage chests, baskets, stools, hearth vessels, and textile bundles keep the shared upper floor flexible.
- lighting
- Small side openings and gable light illuminate the dark raised room while the steep roof creates a dramatic shadowed volume.
- decoration
- Carved and painted gorga bands, structural joints, woven cloth, and house geometry integrate lineage symbolism with construction.
