02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A circular single volume gathers people around the central hardwood post, with a clear perimeter for sitting, sleeping, storage, and customary exchange.
- materials
- Hardwood posts, saplings, bark, liana lashings, pandanus matting, coconut fibre, and layered thatch form a tall yet materially unified tropical enclosure.
- furniture
- Woven mats, barkcloth bundles, baskets, low supports, and a small number of portable objects leave the roof geometry and central post dominant.
- lighting
- One filtered doorway brings tropical daylight across the earthen floor, fading upward through the tall conical thatch and radiating structural members.
- decoration
- Carved structural details, woven surfaces, lashings, and the expressive crown of the building concentrate meaning within its construction rather than added display.
