02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A large undivided room places the hearth near its centre, with sleeping platforms, storage, food preparation, and work arranged around the protected perimeter.
- materials
- Heavy timber posts, saplings, coirón thatch, earth, wool, hide, reed, and clay create a resilient enclosure suited to rain and seasonal temperature shifts.
- furniture
- Low sleeping platforms, stools, baskets, ceramic vessels, work surfaces, and portable storage follow the walls while leaving shared hearth space open.
- lighting
- Rain-softened daylight enters through the broad east-facing doorway, mixing with smoke and firelight beneath the deep textured roof and dark frame.
- decoration
- Woven wool, basketry, pottery, useful tools, and the grain of substantial posts provide restrained colour and texture tied to daily activity.
