02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A large conical outer tent holds cooking, storage, and gear, while the rectangular hide polog creates a smaller heated room for sleeping and close family life.
- materials
- Driftwood poles, reindeer hide, sinew, fur, leather, bone, stone, and snow-resistant coverings form nested layers that can travel with a herd.
- furniture
- Fur bedding, storage bags, sled gear, low lamps, cooking vessels, and compact tools remain portable and ordered around the inner chamber and entrance.
- lighting
- Snow-blue daylight enters the outer tent while a low oil flame gives the hide-lined polog a concentrated amber glow and warmer visual horizon.
- decoration
- Stitched hides, fur edges, carved bone tools, and orderly equipment create material richness through survival craft rather than fixed embellishment.
