02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- Two facing enclosed rooms flank a broad covered breezeway used for cooking, eating, work, and gathering, with open ends connecting yard and landscape.
- materials
- Adobe or brick, timber posts, clay tile or thatch, earth, hide, woven cotton, ceramic, and local hardwood form a shaded rural compound.
- furniture
- Hammocks, rawhide chairs, a long table, benches, chests, and cooking vessels occupy the central passage while private rooms remain sparse.
- lighting
- Daylight and air move through both open ends of the roofed middle space, leaving the opposed rooms cool and the shared centre softly luminous.
- decoration
- Woven ñandutí accents, striped cloth, leather, pottery, timber grain, and garden plants add warmth to the strong paired-room diagram.
