02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A circular or softly faceted room gathers seating and storage around a hearth and central serving area, while small wall openings and roof height organize zones of work, rest, and hospitality.
- materials
- Earth plaster, stone, eucalyptus poles, split timber, woven grass, hide, hand-carved wood, clay, iron, cotton, and wool create resilient layers from locally available craft.
- furniture
- Low carved stools, mesob basket tables, earthen ledges, simple benches, storage baskets, and compact chests keep activity close to the floor and room perimeter.
- lighting
- Small deep openings send concentrated daylight across earthen walls, while hearth fire, portable oil lamps, and woven shades provide a warm low evening glow.
- decoration
- Coiled baskets, indigo and rust cloth, carved vessels, dark cookware, and repeated geometric weaving turn essential household objects into the room’s principal visual language.
