02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- Balanced doorways, centred hearths, and conversational furniture groups establish quiet symmetry while connected rooms and restrained scale keep domestic movement informal.
- materials
- Pale painted plaster, birch parquet, limestone, light linen, wool, brass, opal glass, and selectively polished hardwood combine refinement with northern material economy.
- furniture
- Simplified klismos chairs, compact settees, oval tables, straight-front cabinets, and delicately tapered legs translate classical types into lighter everyday proportions.
- lighting
- Tall windows, white ceilings, opal pendants, restrained brass sconces, and shaded floor lamps spread diffuse northern daylight and gentle evening illumination.
- decoration
- Shallow pilasters, thin cornices, muted landscape art, single ceramic vessels, and grey-green or straw accents preserve order without monumental grandeur.
