02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- Storage and livestock occupy the masonry lower level, while the raised family room gathers cooking, sitting, sleeping, and work beneath a steep roof.
- materials
- Fieldstone, timber logs and boards, wood shingles, clay, wool kilim, iron, and carved wood balance a heavy base with a lighter upper house.
- furniture
- Carved chests, three-legged stools, a low table, wall shelves, bedding, and portable vessels follow the walls around the central hearth.
- lighting
- A small mountain window brings cool winter light across timber boards while fire and lamps concentrate warmth below the steep shingled roof.
- decoration
- Kilim pattern, carved chest fronts, woven blankets, pottery, and exposed joinery enrich the family room through regional household craft.
