02 Field note

How the room is composed

layout
A single circular room gathers hearth, sleeping, storage, and work around a clear centre, with the low sheltered doorway reducing wind and the curved perimeter keeping every function close to warmth.
materials
Rubble stone, clay plaster, grass thatch, sapling rafters, timber, woven fibre, earth, and wool create a robust enclosure from locally repairable materials.
furniture
A wooden stool, low sleeping surface, baskets, vessels, small chests, and portable work pieces follow the curved wall and leave the hearth zone unobstructed.
lighting
Crisp highland daylight passes through the low doorway and small opening, meeting amber firelight beneath the deep textured thatch to emphasize shelter and thermal mass.
decoration
A folded Basotho wool blanket, coiled baskets, polished earth, simple tools, and the exposed roof weave provide warmth through use rather than applied display.
