02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A low circular room places sleeping, food storage, work, and guest space around the perimeter beneath a lightweight dome.
- materials
- Flexible branches, grass and palm mats, fibre rope, hide, wool, leather, wood, and metal create a portable dryland house.
- furniture
- Woven sleeping mats, storage bags, baskets, low stools, milk vessels, and cooking tools remain light and transportable.
- lighting
- Harsh sunlight becomes striped colour through layered mats while adjustable edges admit wind near the ground.
- decoration
- Dyed mat geometry, braided rope, leather containers, carved vessels, and patterned textiles make enclosure richly legible.
