02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A low elongated shelter places sleeping and guest areas beneath the highest arch, with cooking, storage, and entry ordered along the mat-lined perimeter.
- materials
- Flexible timber ribs, palm-leaf mats, fibre rope, hide, wool, woven grass, leather, and metal create a portable dry-climate house.
- furniture
- A woven bed, floor mats, leather bags, baskets, low stools, coffee vessels, and storage bundles remain light enough for pastoral movement.
- lighting
- Harsh Red Sea sun becomes striped amber light through layered palm mats, while adjustable edges admit breeze near the ground.
- decoration
- Strong woven mat geometry, coloured bands, leatherwork, coffee ware, and rhythmic arch ribs make enclosure and ornament inseparable.
