02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- A compact hot room organizes ascending benches around the stove, leaving a clear washing and circulation zone beside the entrance while one small window connects the enclosure to forest or lake.
- materials
- Untreated pine, spruce, aspen, dark soapstone, steel, birch twigs, linen, clear glass, and occasionally split logs are selected to tolerate heat, moisture, touch, and repeated maintenance.
- furniture
- Built-in tiered platforms, simple back rails, a movable washing stool, timber buckets, and wall pegs form the complete furnishing system through wide boards and visible joinery.
- lighting
- A deeply framed window, low shielded lamps beneath benches, reflected snow or lake light, and the dark stove produce dim gradients that encourage slow adjustment rather than bright display.
- decoration
- A birch whisk, one folded linen towel, a wooden ladle, and the grain and patina of the boards provide nearly all visual detail, keeping useful ritual objects within easy reach.
