02 Field note
How the room is composed
- layout
- Compact living areas gather close to a central fireplace, with built-in benches, deep window seats, and short transitions between social and service rooms.
- materials
- Larch, spruce, rough local stone, lime plaster, hand-forged iron, wool, linen, leather, and felt build a layered envelope against the cold.
- furniture
- Built-in timber banquettes, trestle tables, carved stools, and generous upholstered chairs favour solidity, repairability, and shared use.
- lighting
- Low winter daylight enters through deep-set windows, supplemented by firelight, shaded table lamps, and simple iron or timber pendants.
- decoration
- Regional pottery, woven blankets, carved objects, botanical cuttings, and a few patterned cushions bring craft and colour without hiding the structure.
